Umpiring

Umpiring is the lifeblood of our games. No umpires = No netball.

We need more umpires. We have some great umpire coaches, so step up and learn to umpire.

We will be asking all Intermediate players to have a turn at umpiring this year. 1 game, fully supported (no need to follow steps 1 - 7 below unless choosing to umpire regularly)

All umpires, (new and continuing), all Intermediate players, all coaches and anyone interested in the rules of netball are asked to attend the umpiring afternoon on Saturday the 10th of May from 2 - 4 at the clubhouse. Please come in netball gear, bring a hat and water and a whistle if you have one. Tea, coffee and fruit will be available free of charge. This event will be run by Netball Queensland.

To be an umpire at MNA, please ensure you follow these steps:

  1. Talk to the umpire convenor. If you are badged, show them your credentials.

  2. Sign up with Netball Connect as an umpire. Please do this even if you are signed up as a player. It is a free sign up but if you are over 18 you will also need to know your working with children check number. This is also free for volunteers, but can take some time to complete. Please let us know if you are having difficulties with this step.(https://www.service.nsw.gov.au/transaction/apply-for-a-working-with-children-check)

  3. Read the netball rules (you should do this every year) (https://netball.com.au/sites/default/files/2023-12/World%20Netball%20-%20Rules%20of%20Netball%202024.pdf)

  4. Complete the Rules of Netball Exam. (you should do this every year) https://qld.netball.com.au/umpire-resource
(Netball Queensland/Get Involved / Umpires/ Resources) and show the Umpire Convenor your results of 70+%.

  5. Check that the Umpire Convenor knows how to contact you, what team (if any) you play in or support and what amount of support you will need as an umpire. They will also need your bank account details as payments are made after games are completed.

  6. Get a white shirt. Trainee umpires will wear a bib but as you get better or if you are badged, we expect a white shirt as a minimum for umpiring.

  7. Umpires in training are paid $10 a game. Umpires who no longer need continuous support or umpires who are unbadged but competent (as defined by the umpire coaches) are paid $15 a game. C Badged umpires are paid $20 a game. B badged umpires are paid $25 a game. More is paid for finals and carnivals.
